Recent Type Foundry Picks
2025-04-15
Here are a few of my recent favorite type foundries. If I was stranded on a desert island with only a few type foundries to work with, these would my choices. Each of these foundries make typefaces that stand the test of time.
Klim Type Foundry
Klim Type Foundry make some of my favorite fonts of all time. Söhne is one of the best san-serif fonts ever made. It's like Helvetica but warmer. Pitch and Signifier are not far behind in terms of quality typefaces.
Very Cool Studio
Very Cool Studio is the type foundry captained by Kyle Benson. Each typeface is injected with fun and personality to a level that is not achieved by many type foundries. Nudge and Gooper are two of my favorite and most used typefaces available on his site.
HEX Projects
Hex Projects is the product of designer Nick Sherman. His version of Franklin is well worth the current price tag on Future Fonts. The attention to detail is there. I use his version of Franklin on this website for headline copy. A special shoutout to NYC Sans as well!
Nuform Type
Nuform Type is lead by Erik Marinovich. His Ozik typeface flooded the designsphere when it came out a few years ago. A throw-back to 80's typography, Ozik's charisma oozes from it's glyph shapes.
Oh No Type Co
Oh No Type Co is the brain-child of James Edmondson. Sometimes I wondered if we've hit a visual ceiling to what a typeface could look like. Surely, we have explored and cobbled together every known shape to make a letterform. That idea was blown to little bits the first time I saw Eckmannpsych or Digestive. James is a font wizard, and can create a typeface, seemingly, out of nothing. There are too many good typefaces of his to name, so just have a look on his site.
If there are any type foundries that you are currently digging, don't hesitate to email me or send me a message on Instagram.
